School Principal

Principal’s Message

Panda Families!

I am both humbled and honored to continue serving as the principal of such a caring and committed community. I remain deeply proud to be a Pleasant Hill Panda and firmly believe in the transformative power of education.

As we begin this new school year, I want to personally thank our faculty, staff, students, and families for the incredible start we have had together. From the moment our students walked through the doors, they have demonstrated enthusiasm, resilience, and a strong commitment to learning. The support and partnership of our families continue to make a tremendous difference, and together, we are building a culture where every child can thrive.

As we move through the first weeks of school and head into September, our focus remains clear: high levels of learning for every student. Our dedicated staff is committed to meeting students where they are and helping them reach their full potential. We hold high expectations for ourselves, our students, our families, and our community because we know that together, we can continue moving from good to great.

We are proud to share that our students have completed their PM1 assessments. These early results provide valuable information about where our students are performing and where additional support may be needed. Our teachers and leadership team are carefully analyzing this data and using it intentionally to make informed decisions, plan targeted instruction, and ensure every student receives the support and challenge they need to be successful. Data is not about labels; it is about opportunities. It helps us better understand our students so we can help them grow.

We continue to lead the way with AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination), ensuring our students develop the organizational, communication, collaboration, critical thinking, and leadership skills needed to be college and career ready.

Most importantly, our students are already rising to the challenge. We see them working hard, showing perseverance, supporting one another, and demonstrating what it means to be a Pleasant Hill Panda. We encourage all of our students to continue modeling our Panda Pride expectations each and every day:

Panda Pride

  • Persistence – Keep trying, even when learning is challenging.
  • Respect – Treat yourself, others, and our school with kindness and care.
  • Inquisitiveness – Ask questions, explore, and never stop learning.
  • Determination – Stay focused on your goals and give your best effort.
  • Engagement – Be actively involved in your learning and school community.

These expectations guide our work and help create a positive environment where all students can succeed.

The road to success begins within the halls of Pleasant Hill Elementary, and we are excited about the many opportunities available to our students this year. In addition to our strong academic programs, students will have opportunities to participate in:

  • Disney Musicals in Schools
  • Safety Patrol
  • 21st Century Learning Programs
  • Cross Country
  • Soccer
  • Future Educators Club
  • Leadership and Service Opportunities
  • Schoolwide AVID Experiences

There is truly something for every student, and we look forward to watching our Pandas discover new interests, build new skills, and create lasting memories.

We know this school year will bring many exciting moments, celebrations, achievements, and opportunities for growth. From academic milestones to extracurricular accomplishments, we cannot wait to share these experiences with our families and community. Every day is another opportunity for our students to learn, grow, and shine.

We invite you to stay connected with us throughout the year by visiting our website and following us on ParentSquare, Facebook, and Instagram. These platforms are the best way to stay informed about school events, important updates, student celebrations, and all the exciting things happening on The Hill.

As always, if you have questions or need support, please do not hesitate to reach out. We value our partnership with families and know that when schools and families work together, great things happen for children.

Thank you for your continued support and trust. We are excited about the journey ahead and look forward to a year filled with learning, growth, success, and Panda Pride.

Remember: We Believe We Can. We Start Strong, and We Finish Strong.

Once a Panda, Always a Panda!

Warm regards,

Shelby Pagan

“In AVID, we learned how to use our notebooks and stay organized. I get more data from the notebook. When I don’t know something, I can go in my notebook and see an example. Pleasant Hill Elementary has prepared me for middle school and beyond.” -Patrick, Student

“My absolute favorite thing about PHE is the relationships. There's a focus on kindness. Our students, admin, teachers, and staff all watch out for each other and help each other. We learn and grow together. There's a saying at PHE, "Once a Panda, Always a Panda." We have that saying because the relationships here are so very special that when you're a panda, you cheer each other on, you support each other, and help one another out.” -Kyra Woods, Parent/Media Specialist

“I came here from Kindergarten to 5th grade and it just prepared me so well. They taught me all the life skills that I needed. I feel like they took into consideration all the situations that I had going on my life at the time, and nobody ever left me alone. Everybody was always there talking to me and was there for me. I just took everything in, and I decided in the future that I'll give it back. You come in these doors every day and you just feel so proud of yourself for being a Panda." -Evert Jurado-Martinez, Alum/Paraprofessional

“I’m in musical where we act, sing songs, do fun activities, and performances. It’s helped me learn more, stay more focused, and more confident.” -Nathalia, Student
